Best pads I’ve ever used
I’ve been using gorilla pads for a while now and they are great value.
I recently tried a better known brand of pads and they were rubbish in comparison and cost more.
These are great pads and perform well in all conditions.
Hi John, thanks so much for your kind words! We're thrilled to hear you're happy with our Gorilla Brakes pads and that they perform well for you. We appreciate your support!
Great brakes, but they have a tendency to be noisy.
Hi Brian,
Thanks for the feedback, and we're pleased to hear you're happy with the braking performance.
Regarding the noise, there's something important to be aware of with SRAM braking systems.
If you're running anything harder than an organic/resin compound on SRAM CenterLine or Paceline rotors, they can be particularly prone to the infamous SRAM 'turkey warble'. This is a vibration/resonance issue rather than the brake pad itself producing the noise.
There's another factor if the rotors were previously used with SRAM organic pads. During bedding-in, the organic compound deposits a transfer layer onto the rotor surface. Once that layer is established, changing to a significantly different compound — such as our Enduro Pro range — can make it difficult for the new pad to establish its own consistent transfer layer.
This can result in vibration and noise even though the pads still provide very good braking performance.
Brake pads themselves don't actually create the squeal or warble. The sound is vibration resonance within the braking system. This can be caused by an inconsistent transfer layer, rotor/pad compatibility, contamination, caliper alignment, uneven piston movement or other small inconsistencies in the setup.
If you're changing from SRAM organic pads to Enduro Pro Ultimate, we'd strongly recommend thoroughly cleaning and lightly abrading the rotor surface before bedding the new pads in. In some cases, particularly with a heavily bedded-in Paceline or CenterLine rotor, starting with a fresh rotor can make a significant difference.
If you'd like, send us some details about the bike, SRAM brake model and rotors you're running and we'll happily advise on the best compound and setup.
