Thanks for the feedback. SRAM Maven brakes do tend to wear through brake pads much faster than many other braking systems.

A full sintered compound can last longer, but Maven brakes can be very sensitive to harder metallic pads and may produce significant vibration resonance and that familiar loud squeal. As you said, our Factory Racing compound is a great compromise, offering excellent braking power, good modulation and much better noise control, although the trade-off is slightly faster wear.

It’s also great to hear you’ve had no squeal. Just to add a bit of workshop insight for anyone reading brake noise isn’t actually caused by the pads themselves. Squeal usually comes from small vibrations in the braking system, often linked to setup (like piston balance, rotor condition, alignment, or contamination). The pads just transfer that vibration.

When everything’s set up correctly, as it sounds like yours is, the system runs quiet and consistent

Brake pad life can vary a lot depending on riding conditions, rider weight, terrain, braking style, and setup. Our Sintered Maven pads are designed for high heat control and consistent braking under load, but if a different compound suits your riding better, that’s completely fair.

We’d really like to understand your setup and usage a bit more so we can help properly and make sure you’re on the best option for your riding. Please drop us a message directly and we’ll be happy to look into this with you and advise further.

It’s good to hear you’re happy with the stopping power, especially given the extreme terrain and off-piste riding in the Peaks. That kind of riding is about as hard as it gets on brake components, so pad wear will always be accelerated, particularly in persistent wet grit and steep terrain.

We manufacture all of our pads in small batches and batch-code them for full traceability, so if you’re able to find an old set we’d genuinely like to take a look and see exactly how they’ve worn. That helps us understand whether compound choice, conditions, or setup could be improved for your riding.

If you’d like, you’re more than welcome to bring the bike to us and we’ll inspect the braking system free of charge and bed in a fresh set on our machines to make sure everything is working as it should. We’re also happy to advise on a compound better suited to extreme conditions if longevity is the priority.
