Shimano Straight to 90 Degree Brake Hose Kit Explained | Front & Rear Gorilla Brakes Kit
Share
Hydraulic brake hoses are one of the most overlooked parts of a mountain bike brake system. Riders often focus on pads, rotors and calipers, but a damaged, kinked, shortened or badly routed brake hose can affect lever feel, brake performance and long-term reliability.
The Gorilla Brakes BH-SH-002 Shimano Straight to 90 Degree Front & Rear Brake Hose Kit has been created for Shimano-style hydraulic disc brake systems that use a straight hose connection at the lever and a 90 degree banjo connection at the caliper.
This is a complete front and rear brake hose kit supplied with hoses, seals and fitting hardware, making it ideal for servicing, frame swaps, brake upgrades and custom bike builds.
What is a straight to 90 degree brake hose?
A straight to 90 degree brake hose uses a straight fitting at the brake lever end and a round 90 degree banjo fitting at the caliper end. This style of hose is common on many high-performance Shimano MTB brake systems because the banjo fitting allows cleaner hose routing at the caliper.
Instead of the hose entering the caliper in a straight line, the 90 degree banjo allows the hose to sit neatly against the caliper body. This can help with frame clearance, rear triangle routing and keeping the hose away from moving parts.
Why replace your Shimano brake hoses?
Brake hoses can become damaged over time, especially on MTB, e-bike, enduro and downhill bikes. Hose damage is not always obvious at first, but it can lead to poor lever feel, fluid leaks or inconsistent braking.
Common reasons to replace a hydraulic brake hose include:
- The hose has been cut too short during a previous build
- The outer hose is kinked, crushed or damaged
- You are swapping brakes onto a new frame
- You are fitting new brakes to a custom bike build
- You need a longer rear hose for a larger frame
- You are refreshing an older Shimano brake system
- You want to replace old seals, olives and inserts at the same time
Complete front and rear hose kit
The Gorilla Brakes BH-SH-002 is not just a single replacement hose. It is a complete front and rear hydraulic brake hose kit for compatible Shimano-style brake systems.
Kit contents include:
- 1 x front hydraulic brake hose
- 1 x rear hydraulic brake hose
- Straight lever end fittings
- 90 degree banjo caliper fittings
- Hydraulic hose seals
- Olives
- Hose inserts / needles
- Fitting hardware
This makes the kit useful when carrying out a full brake service rather than replacing only one part of the system.
Compatible Shimano brake systems
The BH-SH-002 brake hose kit is suitable for selected Shimano hydraulic disc brake systems using a straight lever connection and 90 degree banjo caliper connection.
Compatible brake systems include:
- HINE-R Brake System: HINE-R hydraulic disc brake system using straight lever to 90 degree banjo caliper hose connection
- Shimano XTR: BL-M9220 / BR-M9220, BL-M9120 / BR-M9120, BL-M9000 / BR-M9000, BL-M9020 / BR-M9020, BL-M985 / BR-M985, BL-M987 / BR-M987, BL-M988 / BR-M988
- Shimano Deore XT / XT: BL-M8200 / BR-M8220, BL-M8100 / BR-M8100, BL-M8100 / BR-M8120, BL-M8000 / BR-M8000, BL-M785 / BR-M785, BL-M785-B / BR-M785-B, BL-T785 / BR-M785, BL-T8000 / BR-M8000, BL-T8100 / BR-M8100, BL-T8100 / BR-M8120
- Shimano SLX: BL-M7100 / BR-M7100, BL-M7100 / BR-M7120, BL-M7000 / BR-M7000, BL-M675 / BR-M675, BL-M675-B / BR-M675-B, BL-M666 / BR-M666

- Shimano Alfine: BL-S700 / BR-S700, BL-S700-B / BR-S700
Important: This kit is only for brake systems that use a straight hose fitting at the lever and a 90 degree banjo fitting at the caliper. It is not suitable for straight-to-straight Shimano hose systems.
Does this fit Shimano road and gravel brakes?
In most cases, no. Shimano road and gravel systems such as GRX, 105, Ultegra and Dura-Ace normally use a different hose layout. These brakes usually use straight-to-straight hose connections rather than a 90 degree caliper banjo.
Before ordering, always check the fitting on your original brake hose. If your caliper end has a round banjo fitting, this kit may be the correct style. If both ends are straight fittings, you will need a different hose kit.
Fitting and bleeding notes
Any time a hydraulic brake hose is replaced, shortened or disconnected, the brake system must be bled before riding. Air inside the brake system can cause a soft lever, reduced power or inconsistent braking.
When fitting the BH-SH-002 hose kit:
- Check hose length before cutting
- Use the correct compatible mineral oil
- Use new olives, inserts and seals when installing
- Make sure the hose is routed safely with no sharp bends
- Bleed the brake fully after installation
- Check for leaks before riding
For newer Shimano M9220 and M8220 brake systems, make sure the correct low-viscosity Shimano mineral oil is used when servicing.
Why choose the Gorilla Brakes BH-SH-002 kit?
The BH-SH-002 has been built as a practical replacement kit for riders and mechanics who need a complete front and rear Shimano-compatible brake hose solution. Instead of buying separate hoses, olives, inserts and seals, this kit gives you the key parts required for a full hose replacement.
- Complete front and rear hose kit
- Designed for Shimano straight to 90 degree banjo systems
- Suitable for selected XTR, XT, SLX, Deore, CUES, Alfine and HINE-R brakes
- Ideal for MTB, enduro, downhill, e-bike and trail bikes
- Useful for brake servicing, frame swaps and custom builds
Final check before ordering
The easiest way to check compatibility is to look at your current brake hose. If the lever end is straight and the caliper end uses a 90 degree banjo fitting, the Gorilla Brakes BH-SH-002 may be the correct kit for your brake system.
If your brake uses a different hose connection, such as straight fittings at both ends, this kit will not be suitable.
Shop the Gorilla Brakes Shimano Straight to 90 Degree Front & Rear Brake Hose Kit and refresh your brake system with the correct hoses, seals and fittings for a clean, reliable installation.
