Workshop Notes — Shimano B-Type (B01S / B03S / B05S / E01S / M05)

  • Best use: everyday MTB, commuting, leisure rides and mixed terrain. Common on Shimano MT200/MT400 style 2-piston brakes.
  • Noise issues: squeal is usually rotor contamination (chain lube, cleaners) or pistons not retracting evenly. Clean rotors with isopropyl alcohol and re-centre the caliper.
  • Rubbing after a pad change: dirty pistons or an overfilled system can prevent pistons returning fully. Push pistons back evenly, clean piston edges, then re-align the caliper.
