2-Piston Road & MTB | Gorilla Brakes Carbon Compound

Refined braking. Quiet operation. Built for real riding.

The Gorilla Brakes Carbon Compound is a carbon-reinforced resin brake pad designed for SRAM 2-piston systems across road, gravel, and light MTB use. It combines a proven organic base with a carbon matrix to deliver smooth modulation, low noise, and improved heat stability without the premium price tag.

Why Choose Carbon Over Standard SRAM Resin Pads?

Standard resin pads can lose consistency as temperatures rise, especially on longer descents or repeated braking. Our Carbon Compound is engineered to stabilise friction, giving you a more predictable feel when it matters most.

More consistent braking under heat
Reduced fade compared to standard resin pads
Smoother, more controlled braking feel
Very quiet when correctly bedded in
Rotor-friendly compound for everyday riding

Key Performance Features

Quiet Braking: Designed to minimise vibration and squeal. One of our quietest compounds when the brake system is correctly set up.

Superior Modulation: Smooth, progressive braking for precise control rather than aggressive on/off bite.

Carbon-Reinforced Stability: Maintains consistent braking feel as temperatures rise, reducing fade on longer descents.

Nickel-Plated Backing Plate: Corrosion-resistant with a clean premium finish.

Rotor Friendly: Softer compound reduces rotor wear and beds in quickly.

E-Bike Compatible: Suitable for e-road, e-gravel, and light e-MTB use.

Performance Overview

Attribute	Score	Recommendation
Braking Power	85/100	Controlled stopping for road, gravel, and trail
Modulation	95/100	Smooth, progressive feel
Direct Brake Feel	75/100	Linear and predictable
Heat Resistance	85/100	Stable performance on longer descents
Dry Noise Level	95/100	Very quiet when bedded correctly
Wear Resistance	75/100	Balanced durability
Wet Performance	45/100	Best for dry and mixed conditions

Compatibility

Designed for SRAM 2-piston brake systems using the standard road / Level pad shape.

SRAM Road: RED, Force, Rival, Apex (Hydraulic Disc)
SRAM Gravel: XPLR variants of Rival and Force
SRAM MTB (2-Piston): Level, Level T, Level TL, Level TLM, Level Ultimate

Things to Note

Designed for road, gravel, commuting, and light trail riding
Longer bedding-in time than standard resin pads
Wet performance is lower than sintered or Enduro Pro compounds
For aggressive trail, downhill, or heavy e-MTB use, choose Sintered or Enduro Pro
Brake noise is typically caused by setup (alignment, pistons, contamination), not the pad compound

Delivered fast with a phone call back to me about the delivery time, great service. I miscalculated and have more titanium pins than I need! If I can't swap for pins suitable for another bike of mine, I won't be stressed, I'll have a spare! Not that I'll need them anytime soon!

Hi Paul, thank you for your kind words! We're glad you appreciated the service and are happy to have spare pins. you more than welcome to send them back for a refund Feel free to reach out if you need any assistance with swaps or future orders. Enjoy your riding!

These are really goooood. They bed in well and bring the bike to a stop like hitting a wall but without the associated pain. 10/10 would buy again.

Ordered pads a few months ago. Haven’t had Tim to fit them. There list says the pads fit sram rival apex. They don’t. It’s a totally different shape

Only 2 rides but much better than the other ones I was using
My mondraker podium felt excellent on long decents

Hi Huw, we're thrilled to hear you're enjoying the brakes on your Mondraker Podium! Thanks for sharing your experience, and happy riding on those long descents!

Service and choice fantastic. Early days on performance of pads but no complaints.

Hi Steven,

Thanks for the great review, we really appreciate it.

Our Semi-Metallic pads are designed more for everyday riding, commuting and recreational use rather than outright performance. They have a maximum power output of around 1200–1300 watts, which is more than enough for this type of riding.

If you’re looking for higher braking performance, especially for harder riding, long descents or more demanding conditions, I’d recommend looking at our Factory Racing compounds or Enduro Pro compounds.

If you need any help choosing the right compound for your brakes and riding style, just give us a call. We’re always happy to help.

Kind regards,

Gorilla Brakes

Bought this set as a spare. Currently installed on my road bike and have been excellent in all weather conditions. Very highly recommended.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

These pads are designed for SRAM 2-piston systems including Level (MTB) and road/gravel brakes such as RED, Force, Rival, and Apex. If you’re unsure on fitment, just message us and we’ll confirm.

Yes — they fit SRAM Level, Level T, TL, TLM, and Level Ultimate 2-piston calipers. Perfect for trail, commuting, and general riding where smooth, quiet braking is preferred.

Yes — they are compatible with SRAM hydraulic road systems including Rival, Force, and RED, as well as XPLR gravel variants.

Standard resin pads can lose consistency as they heat up. The carbon-reinforced compound stabilises friction, giving you smoother, more predictable braking on longer descents and repeated braking.

Yes — this is one of our quietest compounds. When bedded in properly and the system is set up correctly, they run very quietly. If brakes are noisy, it’s usually due to setup (alignment, pistons, contamination), not the pad itself.

They take slightly longer than standard resin pads. We recommend 15–20 controlled stops from speed to build a proper transfer layer. Once bedded in, braking becomes consistent and stable.

Brake power comes from the brake system itself (caliper, pistons, fluid, rotor size). Pads control how that power is delivered. These improve modulation and consistency rather than just adding aggressive bite.

They perform best in dry and mixed conditions. In heavy rain or mud, performance will be lower than sintered pads. For regular wet or aggressive riding, we recommend Sintered or Enduro Pro.

Noise is almost always caused by setup, not the pad itself. Common causes include contamination, uneven piston movement, poor alignment, or incomplete bedding-in. Once the system is clean and set up properly, these pads run quietly.
