About this test

This chart compares braking power for bedded-in pads, all tested with the Shimano XT RT86 rotor. The horizontal axis shows rotor temperature (°C); the vertical axis shows braking power (W). Each curve represents the compound and backing-plate configuration named in the selector. Compare curves within their plotted ranges; no result is shown beyond the end of a curve.

Two Enduro Pro Ultimate results are shown: the main comparison sample and the aluminium-backed sample. Both used the Shimano XT RT86 rotor. Compare each curve as its labelled backing-plate configuration.

Test context: All pads shown can be good choices for their intended use when correctly matched to the bike and rotor, installed and bedded in. A lower or shorter curve does not by itself make a pad a poor everyday choice. Real riding temperatures depend on the route, total load, braking technique and setup; this test does not establish a temperature limit for the average rider. Rotor choice can substantially affect braking power, but these results apply to the tested combinations. Didn't make a huge difference compared to Shimano H03A. Better bite but no change on the braking power (not yet tested on harsh conditions/long downhill

Thank you for the feedback.

That makes sense. The brake pad compound can improve bite, feel, modulation, heat resistance and fade control, but the actual braking power mainly comes from the hydraulic brake system itself.

The lever, master cylinder, hose, fluid, caliper piston size, rotor size and overall brake setup are what create the clamping force at the caliper. The pad then controls how that force is converted into friction at the rotor.

So if you are feeling better initial bite, that shows the compound is engaging well. However, if the overall braking power feels similar to the Shimano H03A, that is normally because the hydraulic system is producing the same amount of force as before. A pad can improve how the brake feels and performs under heat, but it cannot completely change the power output of the brake system.

Where you may notice more difference is in harsher conditions, longer descents, repeated braking, wet weather, or when the brakes start to get hot. That is where compound stability, heat management and fade resistance become more noticeable.

Loud but good power, completely changed my brakes.

Hi Ethan,

If you’re getting noise, it’s usually down to vibration in the system rather than the pads themselves. The first thing to check is your pistons—make sure all four are moving evenly.

On TRP DHR EVO brakes, a common cause is one piston moving slower than the others. That imbalance creates vibration, which leads to noise.

Our sintered pads will run quietly when all pistons are making even contact with the rotor.

If you’re unsure, give us a call and we’ll help you get it sorted. or take the pads out send us a picture of them flat on a table we will tell you exactly where the issue is Happy riding

The brake pads have not been performing as expected. I’ve tried bedding them in twice now, and it takes them quite a while to have any bite when I start riding. And they howl. it’s pretty frustrating.
