E-bike recommendation

Sintered pads can be used on compatible e-bikes when permitted by the brake and rotor manufacturers. Sintered pads generate a lot of heat, which can transfer to the caliper faster than with other compounds in our range. For high-heat applications, Gorilla Brakes recommends the Enduro Pro and Factory Racing compounds.

Rotor compatibility

Use Sintered pads only with rotors approved for metallic or sintered pads. Do not use them with rotors marked “resin pads only”.

Rotor diameter and thickness must meet your brake manufacturer’s specifications. Check rotor condition and minimum permitted thickness before fitting new pads.

Why some curves stop earlier

Each test run stopped when the measured caliper temperature reached 120°C, the stopping threshold used to protect the piston seals in this test setup. The horizontal axis shows rotor temperature. Sintered’s shorter curve means the caliper reached the limit at a lower rotor temperature.

About this test

This chart compares braking power for bedded-in pads, all tested with the Shimano XT RT86 rotor. The horizontal axis shows rotor temperature (°C); the vertical axis shows braking power (W). Each curve represents the compound and backing-plate configuration named in the selector. Compare curves within their plotted ranges; no result is shown beyond the end of a curve.

Follow the Gorilla Sintered curve. Its highest plotted output in the Shimano XT RT86 rotor comparison was approximately 1,020 W. Values are approximate reconstructions from the supplied graph. This result describes the tested pad and rotor setup, not a maximum power rating or a fitment test.

Test context: All pads shown can be good choices for their intended use when correctly matched to the bike and rotor, installed and bedded in. A lower or shorter curve does not by itself make a pad a poor everyday choice. Real riding temperatures depend on the route, total load, braking technique and setup; this test does not establish a temperature limit for the average rider. Rotor choice can substantially affect braking power, but these results apply to the tested combinations. This comparison does not guarantee the same improvement on another bike or identify one best pad for every rider.

What do the published test results show?

The published comparison plots braking power against rotor temperature. Follow the Gorilla Sintered curve to see its output in the Shimano XT RT86 test setup. The values are approximate readings from that test; results depend on the pad, rotor, brake setup and conditions.

How do I check that these pads fit my brakes?

Match the exact caliper model and existing pad shape to the compatibility table on this page. Do not rely on the brake lever name or series alone. Check the front and rear calipers separately, because some systems use different pad shapes at each end.

I purchased those pads because I was annoyed out of my mind from the notorious Hope squeek. Well.... those are squeeky too! Nothing to complain about the brake power thought!

Thank you for the feedback, and I’m glad to hear the braking power is good.

With Hope brakes, squeal is usually caused by vibration in the braking system rather than the pad compound itself. Hope brakes are very powerful and the calipers can be quite sensitive to small setup issues, especially contamination, rotor condition, piston movement, alignment, or bedding-in.

The Factory Racing Stealth compound is designed to be quieter than a full sintered pad, but no pad can completely remove noise if the brake system is creating vibration. I would recommend checking that the rotors are fully cleaned, the caliper is perfectly centred, the pistons are moving evenly, and that the pads have been bedded in with firm repeated stops.

If the squeal continues, send us a bit more detail on your rotor type, how old the rotors are, and whether the noise is front, rear, or both, and we’ll be happy to help you narrow it down.

Initially these were ok, however even this compound will squeal, hard braking is required to bed them in. Not the performance I expected.

Thank you for your feedback, and sorry to hear the pads have not performed as expected.
If there is very little braking power, that normally points more towards a brake setup issue rather than the pad compound itself. Factory Racing Organic pads should have good initial bite once bedded in, so if you are needing to brake extremely hard just to get performance, we would recommend checking the brake system.
The most common causes are air in the brake line, a brake that needs bleeding, sticky pistons, poor pad contact on the rotor, or rotor contamination. If the lever feels soft, pulls too close to the bar, or the power feels weak even with new pads fitted, a brake bleed would be the first thing we would recommend.
Squeal can only happen if the pads and rotor are not bedding in correctly, or if the rotor has contamination or vibration through the caliper.
Please let us know what brake model you are running and whether the lever feels firm or spongy, and we can advise further.

Significantly quieter than standard stock Hope E4 pads particularly in the wet. Could not really determine if braking was noticeably better however. Long term durability still under review.

Finally i have brakes that work and are not just quiet, they are silent.

I thought id wasted a lot of money on the RX4s as they have not been any better than the GRX and I have had multiple mechanics try to stop the squealing with no luck. Turns out both compounds of original pads are just junk.
