Workshop Notes — SRAM Force (Road / Gravel)

  • Squealing brakes: Almost always contamination or poor bedding-in. Clean rotors thoroughly with isopropyl alcohol before installing new pads.
  • Soft or inconsistent lever: Usually bleed quality — not the pads. Air in the system causes wandering bite point.
  • Long alpine descents: Lightweight road calipers build heat quickly. Choose higher heat-stability compounds for mountain riding.
  • Wet UK conditions: Sintered or Semi-Metallic compounds provide stronger bite and better durability in grit and rain.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which SRAM Force brakes do these pads fit?
They fit SRAM Force hydraulic road/gravel systems that use the “small” SRAM pad shape (shared with RED/ Rival/ Apex and many Level 2-piston systems). Always match your pad shape to the old pads before ordering.
My Force brakes squeal after a pad swap — what’s the usual cause?
Most squeal is contamination (sprays, chain lube, oily fingerprints) or uneven piston retraction. Clean rotors with isopropyl alcohol, check both pistons move freely, re-centre the caliper, then bed the pads in properly.
Which compound should I choose for road vs gravel?
For mixed-weather UK riding and gritty gravel, pick a higher wet-performance compound for consistent bite. For dry road and the quietest braking, choose a quieter compound option with smooth modulation.
