About this test

This chart compares braking power for bedded-in pads, all tested with the Shimano XT RT86 rotor. The horizontal axis shows rotor temperature (°C); the vertical axis shows braking power (W). Each curve represents the compound and backing-plate configuration named in the selector. Compare curves within their plotted ranges; no result is shown beyond the end of a curve.

Two Enduro Pro Ultimate results are shown: the main comparison sample and the aluminium-backed sample. Both used the Shimano XT RT86 rotor. Compare each curve as its labelled backing-plate configuration.

Test context: All pads shown can be good choices for their intended use when correctly matched to the bike and rotor, installed and bedded in. I used gorilla pads in my road bike and found them easy to bed in and they have given me good braking all winter. It was an obvious choice to order gorilla pads for my Mtb. After the post office lost them gorillas customer service was top notch, the second set arrived with the first the next day. Gorilla supply good pads with perfect service and I can’t see me using anyone else now.

Both sets of SRAM G2 brake pads I bought failed before the pads wore out. The pad detached from the backing after about 10 short rides.

Pad material separating from the backing plate is extremely uncommon, so we’d really like to investigate what may have happened here.

I spoke to Gorilla as I wasn’t sure which compound to use for the application I needed pads for, they was very helpful and recommended the Semi metallic. The pad works perfect mated to the Hope floating discs.

I don't normally do reviews, but these pads are so far ahead of the clarks and uberbikes pads I'd been using it would be rude not to shout about them. Predictable both in the dry and in the grimy freezing cold of winter. Consistent throughout their lifespan, and practically silent unless you're out in a soaking downpour, at which point the polite chirp they make when you first touch the discs is the least of your worries.
